Blue Christmas ~ Christmas, often heralded as the "Most wonderful time of the year,": The holiday season, once a time of joy, has become a painful reminder since the passing of her mother just days before Christmas.

With her father gone long ago and family scattered across states, she sits alone, a poignant representation of the hundreds in our community facing a similar struggle.

Christmas, often heralded as the "most wonderful time of the year," takes on a somber tone for many.

The festive carols, twinkling lights, and cheerful movies only intensify the ache of loss. The societal expectation to be joyful during this season can exacerbate the pain.

Questions like, "Why aren't you glad? It's Christmas!" add an extra layer of pressure to those already grappling with grief.

Acknowledging the reality of this emotional struggle, Big Spring Presbyterian Church, located at 25 S.

Corporation Street in Newville, offers a compassionate response. On Sunday, December 10th, at 7:00 p.m., the church will host a "Blue Christmas" service.

This meditative gathering aims to honor the unique challenges faced during the holiday season while providing a beacon of hope.

The service stands apart from traditional celebrations by eschewing forced merriment and refraining from passing judgment on those who don't feel festive as societal norms dictate.

Instead, participants will find solace in the collective acknowledgment of their struggles and an opportunity to embrace the blessings of Christ.

The service promises to be a haven for those navigating the darkness of grief, with Christ represented as the guiding light in their world.

Big Spring Presbyterian Church extends a warm invitation for the community to join this meaningful event.

Whether you carry personal grief or wish to stand in solidarity with those who do, the "Blue Christmas" service aims to illuminate the light within the darkness, offering a space for reflection, understanding, and healing during a season that often feels overwhelming.
